Choir Show: Solo Auditions

Hey Everybody! Auditions for solos in the Choir Show ("Braveheart and Soul") are this Monday night starting at 6:30 in the choir room. If you would like to sign up for a specific time slot, go here: Choir Show Solo Auds. You can come just for your audition time, or stay for the whole thing. It should be a lot of fun.
As you can see, I have made a playlist of a lot of the most famous Motown songs. There are also lots of speaking parts and singing before we get to the Motown section, so don't be afraid to audition with a regular musical theatre song. There is plenty of that too. I will be emailing out more specific info about the characters etc in case you want to pick your song based on a specific character.
Almost all of the songs have lyrics posted online, and I have the sheet music to everything posted here, so don't feel you need to go buy sheet music. Just come and audition and have fun. You can audition alone, or as a duet or quartet is fine too.
Look for an email over the weekend with a plot synposis, character descriptions, etc.
Happy New Year!

Winter Concert on Youtube

Hey! I had a parent who was willing to film a lot of the Winter Concert onto my flip video camera. I made a playlist of all the songs I have, plus a few bonus videos from the recording session.
Enjoy!

Happy Holidays!!

Many thanks to everyone for all the extra effort these last few weeks. The CD sales were a super big hit, and the Chamber Singers concerts throughout our community were inspiring and very well received. It has been a tremendous effort on the part of a lot of students and parents, and I want you to know how much I appreciate it. I also really appreciate all the help with tour scholarships. To all the families that have found sponsors to buy ads and make donations, a very sincere thank you!
Now on to the holiday! Have a great break, and I look forward to 2011 and diving into the world of "Braveheart and Soul: The Birth of Moortown Music". I'll be sending out emails with audition info and song ideas, so look for those after the 25th.
Here's a little taste of your fantastic concert last night.

Great Concert!

What a great first concert. Wow! The DVD is wonderful too! I think if you turn in an order form by Friday, you could still get a copy reasonably soon. Order forms are linked to the GunnChoir homepage, as is the link to Don Anderson's amazing pictures. Check them out!

New today also is a link to a whole set of videos from Party Worth Crashing. I hope you will check them out. More details about how to audition, etc, will be out soon, but for now just enjoy checking out the material and see what you think!

Also, here is a link to the propsed plan for recording the holiday CD.

Even more online resources!!

Dear Choir Students,
I am really looking forward to Sunday. I know that if everyone will take the time to be responsible for their own part, we could make it an amazing night. I have posted even more online resources today to help you get your part learned. Everyone needs to sit down for 15 or 20 minutes a day with their score and review the pieces you are having trouble with or have not memorized yet. Check out my links. They are pretty cool!
See you tomorrow.
BL

Concert Choir
I have posted a bunch of new stuff today!
Jubilate- New Ending!
Cantate for Altos
Ave Maria for all 4 parts (your part played against the recording. It's really helpful.)
PLUS I made the basses a cheat sheet for memorizing It Takes a Village. Check it out. It will make memorizing a lot easier.
These are all posted here: http://drop.io/ConcertChoirOct19

Over the Rainbow is still here: http://drop.io/Rainbow_WonderfulWorld
Hit Me Baby and You Raise Me Up are still Here: http://drop.io/Fall2010PartsRecordings

Treble Choir
Brahms (including a new recording of the alto harmony!) http://drop.io/BrahmsAlto
Take me to the Water Solo Group (includes a new full group recording that is awesome) http://drop.io/TakeMe2theWaterSoloGroup

Advanced Women
All your parts are still listed here: http://drop.io/AdvWomensEnsemble

Chamber Singers
I have posted tons of new stuff today including:
Libiamo parts for Bass, Tenor and Alto, plus the recording for sops
Ubi Caritas for the Basses
Ah El Novio for the Basses
These are all posted here: http://drop.io/ChamberSingersOct19

I hope this helps. You cannot get it all learned at once, but if everyone puts in 20 minutes each day, by Sunday it could be really great!

Also, here is a new plan for memorization and confirmation of the soloists.

Treble Choir: All 4 memorized (except the small group in Brahms.) Remember we are using the first verse of Brahms for the full group on both the first and the 3rd verse.

Adv Women: We are holding music.

Concert Choir:
We are not holding music. Jubilate/Cantate/Ave Maria/Babethandaza/Rainbow/HitMe/Village.
Shivani Rustagi will sing the solo on What a Wonderful World.
Elias Kaufhold will sing the solo on Hit Me. (The trio is Daniel W, Sam H, and Blake V)
Jun Yeup Kim will sing the solo on It Takes A Village
If the men can get You Raise Me Up Learned tomorrow, I will announce soloists on verses 1 and 2.

Chamber Singers: PLEASE HAVE YOUR MUSIC IN CLASS EVERY DAY.

All men will hold on Ah El Novio. No men will clap. 50% of the women will hold Ah El Novio and will share with one
other singer. That other singer will do the claps. The sopranos will always clap the female rhythm and the altos will always clap the male rhythm. We will run it in class tomorrow. (Soloist TBA)

We will hold on Ubi Caritas. Keep your eyes up and out of the score though!

We will not hold on Libiamo, but you are stuck with a binder in one hand so we need to practice the movement and poses with a binder in your hand. Please try to memorize this ASAP.

See you tomorrow.
BL

P.S. How are you doing on tickets? Attire? Remember we have an early call at the church to practice entrances and exits etc. 4:45!

Fall Concert!

Dear Choir Students and Parents. This rather lengthy post contains all the information each choir student needs to be ready for our upcoming concert. Parents, if your student is younger or new to the program, I strongly encourage you to read the entire thing and to support your student in being responsible for their part in this group. If you have had a kid in the choir for years now, you probably know how all this works and you just need to scan the email for the parts that pertain to you. I could especially use some support from the parents in terms of getting all the singers to spend time on their music at home! You should be finding your student actively listening and singing and studying their score for at least 20-30 minutes a day as we prepare for Sunday. If they are not doing that, they are probably not contributing much to the actual product. There are elaborate online resources listed at the bottom of the post. I hope every singer will take the time to use those and to be ready musically for our first big concert of 2010-11.
Looking forward to seeing you all next Sunday.
Best,
Bill Liberatore

Gunn Choir Fall Concert One Week from today!!

Updates in this email:
I. Tickets
II. Publicty/Flyers
III. Program Ads/Donations
IV. Attire
V. Help with Risers
VI. Schedule
VII. Solos
VIII. Musical Stuff/Links to Study

I. Tickets: If you are among the 60 families that donated to the Choir Boosters, you should have received a Booster Pass that will get you into the Fall, Winter and Spring Concerts. Everyone else will need to purchase tickets. Students were issued a packet of 4 tickets to sell. You can also buy your tickets at the door. All unsold tickets and/or money are due back Thursday, Oct 21.

II. Publicity/Flyers: Sukey Bryan designed a beautiful poster for our concert. I have lots of nicely printed copies in the choir room. Students please stop by and take some with you. Let’s get them up all over campus. I have posted the PDF here: http://drop.io/FallConcertFlyer in case you would like to download it to include in your emails inviting people, or to print one yourself, or to use on your evite or Facebook invitation.

III. Program Ads/Donations: The deadline for ads is tomorrow, Monday, October 18. If you have not started to join in this effort, please find some time to do so before the Winter Concert. By the Winter Concert we really want to see that everyone going to Italy has tried to secure at least 2 donations towards the scholarship fund. You can download materials or read more about this at http://drop.io/Sponsorship2010

IV. Attire: Guys: Black dress shoes, black socks, black dress pants (no jeans or dockers), and the tux shirt/tie and cummerbund we bought for you. You also need to take home your tux jacket before Friday.
Girls: If you are new to the choir, you should already have taken your dress in to be hemmed by now. NO ONE IS TO HEM THE DRESS THEMSELVES. We have had really bad experiences with people hemming the dress at all kinds of different lengths. If you have not taken the dress in, please do so as soon as you can. Detailed instructions on how to do this and where to go were included in the package with the dress. (More detailed attire info is posted at GunnChoir.org).

V. Help with Risers
I need a team of kids who will help with the set up and break down of the risers. Your reward for helping will be a really great pizza party at lunch on Friday, Oct. 29th. The riser crew will need to meet me at Gunn on Sunday at 3:00 PM, load the risers onto the truck and help set them up at the church. We will also need to load them back onto the truck after the concert. (We can unload the truck Monday morning.) Write me back if you are able to help with that.

VI. Schedule

Monday: A Period: Treble Choir
Monday Lunch: Final opportunity to audition for the following solos:
Ah El Novio, What a Wonderful World, You Raise Me Up, It Takes a Village

Tuesday: E Period: Concert Choir, A Period: Treble Choir

Wednesday: E period: Concert Choir and A Period: Treble Choir (German coaching on Wed!)
ONSTAGE IN SPANGENBERG to set riser formations

Thursday: E period and A Period onstage on the risers in Spangenberg.
Lunch: Advanced Women’s Ensemble

Friday: E Period Concert Choir
Lunch: ADDED CHAMBER SINGERS RUNTHROUGH ON THE RISERS. REQUIRED!

Sunday:
3:00 Riser crew will meet at Gunn and do set up for the concert. (I will need a couple parent volunteers to drive the kids from the school to the church once the risers are on the truck.)

4:45 ALL SINGERS DRESSED AND ON THE RISERS FOR WARM UP AND STAGING REHEARSAL AT THE CHURCH. (If you are not there for the staging rehearsal, you must have cleared this with me ahead of time. Otherwise you will not be allowed to perform in the concert. You have to know when and where to enter and exit and where we stand for each song. ) There will be pictures taken during the rehearsal so you need to be in full concert dress, with your hair done, etc.

6:30 DOORS OPEN, 7:00 CONCERT

VII. Solos
I have set some of the solos.
There is still an opportunity to audition for Ah El Novio/ What a Wonderful World/You Raise Me Up and It Takes a Village Monday at lunch.
Solos or small groups I have already assigned:
1) All Treble solos have already been assigned for a long time now.
2) Advanced Women: Cailin Kelly will sing the sop solo in Dirat On.
3) Ch Singers: Libiamo Soloists: Sophie Christel and Daniel Wolfert
4) Concert Choir:
Babethandaza Sextet: Delia Gratta, Mariam Helmy, Emily Simon
Shivani Rustagi, James Oh, Matthew Leong
Hit Me Baby Solo: Elias Kaufhold
Hit Me Baby Solo Trio: Daniel Wolfert (Top), Sam Hayward (Middle), Blake Vesey (Bottom)
(for the Hit Me Baby and Babethandaza people: you can access parts recordings of those at the following sites: http://drop.io/HitMeBabySoloTrio and http://drop.io/BabethandazaSoloGroup

VIII. Musical Stuff/Links to study

By the time you get to the week of a concert every choir member should be studying their music at home for a minimum of 20-30 minutes a day. If you are not doing that, it is unlikely that you will leave the concert feeling like you were vocally a person who really contributed. You will feel like you were there and like you sang along some or most of the time, but it is a very different feeling when you are on top of your part and contributing with energy and purpose throughout every song.
I am not planning on holding folders for any of the music in this program.
Again the order is:

Treble Choir: Soli Deo, Brahms (solo sextet can hold for their verse), Rise Up, Take Me to the Water

Advanced Women: Jubilate Deo, Dirait On, Salmo 150 (this group may hold on their 2nd and 3rd pieces since we have had a lot less rehearsal than the other groups.)

Chamber Singers: Ah El Novio, Ubi Caritas, Libiamo

Concert Choir: Jubilate/ Cantate/ Ave Maria/ Babethandaza

Women: Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World
Men: Hit Me Baby, You Raise Me Up

All: It Takes a Village

There are MANY online resources to help you study scores at home.
For Treble Choir:

Brahms: This youtube video is a fantastic performance of the piece! I strongly encourage you to practice along with these girls. It will help with memorization and pronunciation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f48GjZKrOY

Take Me to the Water: I think this youtube performance is GREAT!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN9kBhWmpSY

Chamber Singers:
Ah El Novio: A good recording of the University Of Utah singing it is posted here:
http://drop.io/AhElNovio

Ubi Caritas: Awesome Luther College performance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNTDUIRrV-o

Libiamo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEg7BdnX_Aw
Of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV84o8ofZyU

Advanced Women:
All of your parts are posted here:
http://drop.io/AdvWomensEnsemble

Concert Choir:
Cantate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afiVr3bRFYE&feature=related

Ave Maria: There are two helpful recordings at the publisher’s website. You can hear Dan Hughes’s awesome choir sing it, or you can click on See and Hear, and you will hear just the parts played on midi. It is a great way to practice to sing your part with the midi file that has no vocals and make sure you have the words memorized!!
http://sbmp.com/DanielHughesSeries.html

Babethandaza: Right under Ave Maria at the same link is Babethandaza. Fantastic recording!! http://sbmp.com/DanielHughesSeries.html

Women:
Over the Rainbow/ What a Wonderful World:
Everything you need is posted here: http://drop.io/Rainbow_WonderfulWorld
Including parts recordings for Sop2 and Alto.

Men: Hit Me Baby and You Raise Me Up Parts are all posted here.
http://drop.io/Fall2010PartsRecordings
(The Ten 1 and Ten 2 parts to Babethandaza are there also.)
YOU HAVE TO HAVE THESE MEMORIZED RIGHT AWAY.

It Takes A Village: The best recording is at the publishers website
http://sbmp.com/HighSchoolFrameSet/HighSchoolFrame.html
Click on “I” and scroll down to find It Takes a Village.

I am looking forward to a great first concert!

Italy: Signups were huge!!!!! We are about to kickoff the ad sales and donations campaign. Start thinking about who you can solicit for a donation to the scholarship fund. If you don’t have a passport you need to take care of that ASAP. If you need a VISA to get into Italy, you need to figure that out ASAP.

Party Worth Crashing:
Hope to start auditions soon. I will provide short segments of songs from the show for you to use for auditions. The goal is to cast a small group where each person agrees to learn and memorize 2-3 numbers for a 3 performance run in early January. There are many great performances by these composers on youtube. Look at the Kerrigan and Lowdermilk playlist to get an idea of what it’s all about.

Nuts and Bolts:

Please have your sheet music and a pencil in rehearsal every day.
If you are without a folder, please list your name on the white board today.
If you have not paid for your attire, you need to do so ASAP!!!

Italy Brochure and Appilcations are here!!

The Italy Brochures and Applications have arrived! Yeah. I have enough to send each singer home with their own copy of the brochure, and I am mailing one to each parent as well, but I thought I would post them here electronically for those who are anxious to see it!
http://drop.io/GunnItalyMaterials
For those of you hoping for some scholarship assistance, it will be important that your parent make an appointment to come in and see me so we can talk about it. Registrations are due September 14, so the sooner the better. I can be reached at GunnChoir@aol.com.

So many fun things in store!!!

Here are some of the highlights of the many great things we
have in store for 2010-11, with some awesome video clips of
past shows and concerts.
I. August 30, Monday 6:30 PM Chamber Singers Auditions
Here's a little taste of a typical Monday night rehearsal.
Great voices, a few too many laughs....

II. September 14, Italy Tour Sign Ups due
Here is the Gunn Choir singing in Rome 5 years ago.
(Caitlin Gjerdrum is the Diva!!)
There is nothing like Italy!

III. October 24, 7:00 Fall Concert, Grace Lutheran
I love the excitement of the choir's first performance. Here are
the 2009-10 Concert Choir men in their featured number.
Sam Putney is the amazing soloist.

IV. December 16, Thursday 7:30 PM Winter Concert, Spangenberg
Here's a clip from last year's Winter Concert.
We did Schubert's Mass in G with the awesome
Gunn Chamber Orchestra, and soloists Sophia Christel
and Micah Brown. Fantastic!

V. January 29/30, Choir Retreat at YMCA Jones Gulch
(Sorry, no videos. What happens at Choir Retreat, stays at Choir Retreat!)

VI. February 9/10/11, Wed-Fri 8:00 PM Choir/Staff Musical
Sometimes rehearsing the Choir/Staff Musical is as much fun
as the show itself!

And now the real number, from the 2009 And Then There Were Nuns

At Gunn, all prospective staff are asked to sing as part of their interview!
(Of course that's not true, but you might think it is when
you hear John Bulan sing!)
Duke of Earl from 2010's Heavenly Bandstand

The amazing Mr. Shelby with show stopping choreography by Gay Richard.

VII. March 27, Sunday 4:00 PM Mission Santa Clara
Invitational Choral Festival w/ The San Jose Choral Project

The Choral Project, conducted by Daniel Hughes, is one of
the finest choirs around. We are very thrilled to be
invited to sing in the Invitational Choral Festival.
Here is a clip of the Choral Project singing
in Mission Santa Clara

VIII. April 7-15 Italy Tour
Last year's trip to New York was a blast. Not only did we have
a great time, but all three choirs received Gold Ratings
at the festival! Here is the outstanding 2009-10 Treble Choir
singing "I Went to the Market" at Riverside Church. Awesome piano
work by Nahoko Hashimoto. (Sorry there's no video, but the
audio is really great!)

This year's tour is going to be amazing! Nothing inspires a choir to work
hard and sing well like a tour. Here is a wonderful
clip of the choir singing in Vienna in 2009. Jiri Teml's "Ave"

IX. June 2, Thursday 7:30 PM Spring Concert, Spangenberg

It's hard to imagine June 2, 2011. We will have had so many
great musical adventures together! I can hardly wait to get
started!!

Back to School Info

Greetings! We got the back to school choir packet out last week, so you should definitely have it by now. It's got lots of great information in it about the exciting musical year ahead of us.
I also posted the mailing here as a word doc for those of you who may not have recieved the packet or for those who like to keep track of your life electronically. http://drop.io/BTSchoirINFO2010

Welcome to 2010-11

Welcome to the 2010-11 school year! I am very excited about the line up of concerts, shows and trips waiting for you. It is going to be a fantastic year! The Boosters and I are meeting tonight to finalize the Back to School packet and you should be receiving all the choir info in the mail by the end of the week.
Can't wait to see you all and to start making music again!
Best,
Bill Liberatore

Check out the cover of the Daily!

I don't think we can get better publicity than what we have had this year. The campus is covered in posters thanks to Don Anderson's awesome pictures, Josh Kelly made us a great video promo, we made it on the cover of the daily thanks to Marilyn Putney's tenacity, there are fantastic signs in front of the school thanks to Amy Christel, and we did two big assemblies yesterday to spread the word out at the middle schools. This is all just awesome.
AND the show is going really well and is going to be a blast!
There will be big crowds so tell your parents and friends to buy early. Especially if they are thinking of coming Wednesday night.
Thanks for all your hard work. I think it is going to be totally worth it!
Best,
BL

HEAVENLY BANDSTAND!

Greetings! Thanks again for a fantastic retreat. I had such a great time, and the rehearsals were so productive, and the Talent Show was just the best ever. Thank you so much.
Below is important show info. Please read it thoroughly.

Today after school there is a teacher practice. There will also be a photographer there from the Daily and I would love for there to be kids and adults rehearsing together for the picture. If you can come rehearse the Finale with us after school, that would be great.

On Thursday, I would like to try and run the show with everyone who is free from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Just start at the top and see what we have. Anyone who can't come, we will skip to what we have.

On Friday we are performing at the middle schools. You must wear your fifties costume. You can dress during brunch.
At 10:20 we will meet in the choir room and walk over to Terman. This needs to happen fast, since we will need to figure out
all the spacing etc. when we get there, and the assembly is at 11:25!
I am thinking we could do:

ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK
MAGIC CHANGES (JORDAN, COULD YOU SING MR. DEGGELLERS PART?)
SCENE TWO WITH FOOLS FALL IN LOVE AND JOHNNY ANGEL
LOLLIPOP
MR. SANDMAN
STUPID CUPID
LITTLE BITTY PRETTY ONE
IT'S IN HIS KISS
LITTLE DARLIN
HEARTBREAK HOTEL (CAT, COULD YOU SING YOUR PART AND DMELS PART?)
JAILHOUSE ROCK
TUTTI FRUTTI (BUT SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO SING THE SOLO. ANY VOLUNTEERS???)
WE GO TOGETHER

CONCERTING THE ASSEMBLIES, I NEED TO KNOW:
1) WHO IS GOING TO THE ASSEMBLIES OR NOT
2) WHO IS GETTING THEIR OWN RIDE HOME FROM JLS AT 3:05, MEANING YOU ARE WALKING HOME OR BEING PICKED UP FROM THERE.
3) WHO DOES NOT HAVE A WAY BACK BUT MUST GET BACK TO GUNN FOR THE PLAY OR A SPORT AT 3:15 AND CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SCHOOL BUS. WE WILL COLLECT THIS INFO IN CLASS TODAY.
4) IF YOU ARE A PARENT WHO COULD DRIVE A CARLOAD OF KIDS FROM JLS TO GUNN AT 3:05, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THE SCHOOL BUSSES WILL COME BACK TO TAKE US
FROM JLS TO GUNN EVENTUALLY, BUT THEY HAVE TO DO THEIR SCHOOL TO HOME RUNS FIRST, AND SOME KIDS HAVE TO GET BACK SOONER THAN THAT.

Sat Feb 6 we will rehearse all students on stage starting at 10:00.
Sun Feb 7 is a full runthrough with costumes onstage from 10-3.
Monday Feb 8 is our last rehearsal day. We will start right after school at 3:00. We will stay no later than 8:00.
Tues Feb 9 is the show. 3:00 runthrough. 8:00 Show. (We are bringing in pizza for inbetween.)
Wed Feb 9 no after school practice, but a show at 8:00.

A few details:
1) There is a google doc that you may or may not have seen. It has a lot of recordings and youtube vids linked to it, as well as the schedule and costume info.
Check it out: Choir Show Googledoc

2) I have Don Anderson's fantastic posters, each with it's own unique rehearsal shot. I need volunteers to put them up all over school. I will have the big pink posters by this afternoon. If you can put one of those up in a store window anywhere were it will get the word out, please take one!

3) Tickets are on sale in the SAC and online. Please do everything you can to publicize it.
Be sure to send the poster out to all your Facebook friends. We want to pack the joint!

4) Try to enjoy all this and not get too stressed out about it. The show is in fantastic shape, and the audience is going to have a great time. Don't forget, it is supposed to be FUN!

Choir Retreat January 30/31

To: All Choir Members and Parents

From: Bill Liberatore

RE: Choir Retreat, January 30/31

I. Overview

Gunn Choir’s Retreat is January 30/31. If you are new to the program, let me briefly describe the event. The Choir spends a weekend every year at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch to rehearse extensively for our next concert, and to get to know each other better. In order to have the rehearsals be effective, we really encourage every student to participate. Especially this year when we are going during the preparation for the choir show, and there will be lots of choreography rehearsed. If your student has to miss any part of it, please e-mail me right away. If finances are a problem, we can offer financial assistance to any family who cannot afford the full cost. Please contact me if you need help with that part of it.

II. Chaperones

I am also writing to ask for chaperones. It is a very relaxing time for the chaperones since we rehearse almost continuously. You have lots of time to enjoy the surroundings and read, hike, etc. Please contact me right away if you can help us. Chaperones don’t have to pay, so you can think of it as a free mini-vacation! Cold, but free! Until lights out of course, when you will put in the real work getting these kids to bed!! If you would be willing to chaperone, please sign up here:

Choir Retreat Chaperone Sign ups

III. Permission Slips/Forms

Important forms I have posted at drop.io/GunnChoirRetreat:

1) Gunn Parent-Student agreement/behavior contract

2) YMCA waiver form

3) PAUSD medical release form

4) form to include with the payment

5) rehearsal schedule and a packing list

When you click on the dropio link, you will have access to all of those documents and you can print them yourself. I will also have hard copies available in class if you want to have your student pick them up. There are four pieces to turn in. Behavior contract, YMCA waiver, PAUSD medical form, and a form to staple your check to. Checks should be made out to “Gunn Choir Boosters”. Chaperones don’t pay, but they do need to sign and turn in all the forms.

The kids are doing a great job preparing for the Choir Show next month. I hope you have it on your calendar (February 9 and 10) and will consider bringing lots of people with you. It is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we all know how much families need the scholarship assistance we are trying to provide right now for trips, etc. Besides, it’s a fantastic show, and you don’t want to miss it!

As with all things to do with the choir, up to date information is always available at GunnChoir.org.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
Two important announcements:

1) The auditions for solos and speaking parts in the choir/staff musical will be Wednesday night Jan 6, not Mon Jan 4. I think everyone needs a day or two to get back in the swing of school and to find an audition song, etc. There will be no Monday night class. (A copy of the email about auditions is below.)

2) Choir Retreat is Saturday January 30 and Sunday January 31. We leave Gunn very early Saturday and we will be back Sunday around 1:00 PM. We needs lots of parents to come chaperone! This year's retreat will be really fun and different since we are rehearsing the choir show this time. More details to come, but save the date!

Below is the long email about how to audition for the choir/staff musical this coming Wednesday evening.

Best,
Bill Liberatore

Choir Staff Musical/ Auditions!!!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great break. I am looking forward to getting started on the Choir Show! We begin with a round of auditions this Wednesday night. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to audition. If you would like to see yourself singing a solo or performing in a small group, all you need to do is prepare a classic 50's rock n roll song and come in and perform it . If you can memorize it, great. If you can't that's OK too. If you want to audition with a specific trio or quartet of people you would like to perform with, that's cool too. It can have some choreography or not. Just come and have fun and sing out and be a little outrageous.

If you need help picking a song, I found a list online that I am including at the bottom of this email. A lot of them can be heard on youtube rather than buying them at itunes or something, and if you need sheet music, try doing a google search for the lyrics with "tab". (That just means the lyrics with the guitar chords!) It's all free and easy to get to.

In order to make things run more smoothly, I have prepared a google doc with audition times. That way, if you want to stay and enjoy everyone's audition, great, but if you want to just come and do your song, that is OK too. Here is the link:

There are many different ways to be featured in this show, and a lot of it will be created based on what you bring in and what you sound great doing, so be creative and have fun and take a chance! People will be called back to read if their singing audition indicates that they are right for one of the speaking parts.
